Plumbit's footer is the site-wide area after the main content. It can be supplied by the theme's widget and copyright output or by a selected Elementor Footer template. Check the owner before changing settings so a theme change is not mistaken for an Elementor issue.
Before you begin#
- Confirm Plumbit is active and that Plumbit Extensions is active when your package uses its widgets or Footer records.
- Use an account with Customizer permissions. You need administrator access for Widgets, Menus, or page-level Page Options.
- Record the current footer provider, selected Footer template, widget areas, Footer Menu assignment, and copyright text before broad changes.
- Use a backup or staging copy before changing a live footer structure.
Open the footer settings#
Open the WordPress Customizer and choose Footer. The active controls include Footer Layout Type, Choose a Footer, Enable Footer Widget Area, Enable Footer Copyright Area, Copyright Text, Footer Menu Type, and Footer Column Layout.
Appearance and colors are separate from the provider controls. Open Styling and then Footer Styling for the footer widget-area and copyright-area color controls. Typography has separate Footer Widget Title and Copyright Title sections.
Choose the footer provider#
Footer Layout Type offers Theme Options/Widget Area and Elementor. Theme Options/Widget Area renders the theme footer widget area and lower copyright bar. Elementor renders the selected Footer record instead, so theme widget changes and the Footer Menu location do not control the template's internal content.
When Elementor is selected, choose a published Footer record with Choose a Footer. If the selected record is missing or Elementor is unavailable, the template output may be empty; check ownership before changing the theme provider.
Choose the footer column layout#
Footer Column Layout is a visual picker with one-column, two-column, three-column, four-column, and four-two-column proportions. The four-two option uses a wider first and last column with narrower middle columns. The selected layout determines which Footer Sidebar areas are rendered and how they stack at smaller widths.
Choose a layout that matches the number and length of your active widgets. Preview long headings, links, contact details, and images on a narrow viewport before publishing.
Enable the footer areas#
Use Enable Footer Widget Area to show or hide the theme footer widget area. Use Enable Footer Copyright Area to show or hide the lower site-information bar. These are separate controls, so a copyright bar can remain while the widget columns are disabled, or the widget area can remain while the lower bar is hidden.
The back-to-top control is configured separately under General as Enable Back to Top Button. It is not a footer widget, although it appears near the bottom of the page after the visitor scrolls.
Configure footer appearance#
In Footer Styling, configure the widget-area background color and image, widget-area text and link colors, link-hover color, icon colors, and social-icon colors. The copyright area has separate text, link, hover, background, icon, and social-icon settings. Use sufficient contrast when a background image is active.
Use the typography sections for footer widget-title and copyright typography. Widget-owned content, such as a Company Info logo or Social links, keeps its own field values while the theme supplies the surrounding footer presentation.
Configure branding and information#
Footer branding and contact information are not entered in one universal footer panel. Use the active Footer Sidebar areas for widgets such as Plumbit: Company Info, Plumbit: Opening Hours, Plumbit: Opening Hours 2, Plumbit: Recent Posts, and Plumbit: Social. Use an Elementor Footer template when the complete footer is Elementor-owned.
For the theme footer's optional contact presentation, Footer Menu Type can expose Footer Contact Detail with the related contact text and icon controls in the Customizer.
Assign the Footer Menu#
Open Appearance > Menus > Manage Locations and assign a saved menu to Footer Menu. Return to How to assign Plumbit menu locations for the full location workflow.
The theme footer uses the assigned location only when Footer Menu Type is Navigation Menu. With Social Menu, it renders the theme's social menu instead. With None, the lower content is centered. An Elementor Footer template may select a menu inside its own Navigation Menu widget and does not inherit the theme location automatically.
Configure the bottom footer#
Copyright Text supplies the lower copyright content. Plumbit renders the saved text when it is present and otherwise uses its built-in Plumbit copyright sentence. Plumbit does not provide an automatic year token in Copyright Text. Enter the year manually and update it when needed.
The lower bar can also contain the Footer Menu, Social Menu, or Footer Contact Detail according to Footer Menu Type. Check both sides of the lower row after changing the choice.
Configure back to top#
Use General > Enable Back to Top Button. The control appears after the visitor scrolls down the page and returns the document to the top when activated. Check the public page at a useful scroll position on desktop and mobile. If it is absent, check the setting and browser console before changing footer markup.
Preview and publish#
Check the provider#
Confirm whether Theme Options/Widget Area or Elementor owns the visible footer.
Check representative pages#
Review the homepage, a normal page, a post, a Service, a product, and an archive or shop route.
Check the lower bar#
Confirm copyright, Footer Menu or social output, contrast, and link destinations.
Check mobile#
Review stacked columns, long links, images, and the back-to-top control before publishing.
Global settings and page-level overrides#
When a page-level control supports inheritance, leaving it unset allows the corresponding global setting to apply. Where a matching page-level override is available, use it for a deliberate exception. Plumbit supports page-level Footer Type, Choose a Footer, Footer Widget Area, and Footer Copyright Area overrides on supported singular content.
Expected result#
The selected Plumbit footer owner displays the intended widget areas or Footer template, column arrangement, menu or contact content, copyright bar, colors, and responsive behavior.
