How to configure Plumbit global layout and spacing

Before you begin#

• Identify whether the extra space belongs to the site layout, page content, sidebar, page header, or an Elementor container.
• Record the page, context, provider, and viewport where the issue appears.
• Make a backup or use staging before changing a global layout value.

Separate the layout layers#

• Site layout: Plumbit's broad theme structure and default content arrangement.
• Theme container: the theme's normal content boundary and responsive widths.
• Page content width: the main content and sidebar arrangement for a page or supported context.
• Sidebar: the sidebar position, width, and visibility controlled by the applicable theme or page setting.
• Page-header width: the title and media area, with its own page-header position and size settings.
• Elementor content width: the Elementor page, template, container, or page-setting width for Elementor-owned content.

Choose the Plumbit site layout#

Open Appearance > Customize > General > Default Site Layout. Choose one of these Plumbit values: Left Sidebar, Right Sidebar, or Full Width. Plumbit does not provide a global Boxed option in this control. The default is Full Width.

The selected value changes the theme's default content/sidebar arrangement. Check a representative page, archive, header, and footer after publishing. Restore the previous value if the change affects more areas than intended.

Review content and sidebar settings#

Use the applicable page-level layout field when one page needs a different content/sidebar arrangement. A blank page-level value inherits the global behavior when that field supports inheritance. The page-level setting does not change the Elementor container width.

If the visible issue is only in the title area, review the Page Header settings instead of changing the main content layout.

Keep Page Header Size separate#

Page Header Size controls the title-area presentation. It is not the same as the site layout, theme container width, page content width, or Elementor container width. Check the page-header position, size, background, and spacing controls only when the issue is inside the page header.

Understand Elementor page settings#

Elementor page settings provide the labels Default, Elementor Full Width, and Elementor Canvas.

• Default: retains the normal theme structure around the Elementor content.
• Elementor Full Width: retains the theme header and footer while applying the Elementor full-width content layout.
• Elementor Canvas: suppresses the theme-controlled header, footer, page header, and sidebar output.

Elementor containers also have their own width and responsive settings. Theme container settings and Elementor container settings are configured separately.

Adjust spacing deliberately#

Use the setting closest to the unwanted space: a page or container padding control for content, a sidebar layout control for the content/sidebar gap, a Page Header setting for the title area, or an Elementor container control for Elementor content. Avoid solving one component's spacing by changing the global site layout first.

Check responsive layouts#

Review desktop, tablet, and mobile previews after a width or spacing change. Long headings, breadcrumbs, buttons, sidebars, and Elementor containers can need different responsive values. Keep the smallest-screen layout inside the viewport and confirm that the content remains readable.

Expected result#

The site layout, theme container, content/sidebar structure, page header, and Elementor content each use the appropriate width and spacing owner.

Include the URL, viewport, active provider, page setting, layout mode, affected owner, and screenshots. Do not send passwords.
