How to translate Plumbit with Loco Translate

Use Loco Translate's optional Custom location for theme strings, and keep its files and workflow separate from authored content.

Loco Translate is an optional translation plugin that can be used with Plumbit. Choose Loco’s Custom location so your personal translation is not saved in the replaceable theme folder or WordPress-managed language-pack folder.

Before you start#

Back up the existing translation files and test the workflow on staging when possible. Language files do not change Elementor page copy, menu labels, posts, products, form records, or other customer-authored content. Edit that material through its owner; use the site's selected multilingual setup where needed. This guide covers Plumbit theme strings only. The companion plugin remains a separate target with a separate translation boundary.

Select the Plumbit theme target#

After installing and activating Loco Translate, select Loco Translate from the WordPress menu. Select Plumbit from the active theme list.

Select the active theme entry to open its translations in Loco Translate.

Add a language and choose language file location#

Use the language dropdown to choose your desired WordPress language. For the language file location, explicitly select Custom, Loco Translate’s recommended protected location, instead of relying on the default. Then select Start translating to begin the translation process.

Translate, review, and save#

Select a source string from the Source text list, then enter its translation in the Translation field. Preserve placeholders such as %s, %d, and numbered forms such as %1$s; keep links, markup, escaped characters, and plural forms intact. Repeat for each string you want to translate, then click Save to finish. Next, test the public site and relevant administration screens using your chosen WordPress Site Language.
